Going out with Daniele

Yesterday night I went out with Daniele. Things have changed in the last 8 years. For the first time I have scored more than him. A person started to talk to me, and smile to me and chat with me. It was great to receive some attentions, and the best was Daniele didn't. For him, it was a shock, and he got irritated and depressed. In the end, we biked home, but after 500m Daniele, or Daniel, like he wants to be called here, collapsed. His bad mood wasn't able to support his defeating body any longer.

Velocità

Egregio Signor giudice,

Distinti saluti.

La pasta ai broccoli

Today I am cooking a recept that I have learned from Edo, a great friend of mine. For 2 persons you will need

250g of short pasta (tortiglioni, o penne rigate)
250g of broccoli
100g of sheep cheese
50g of crunched bread
italian olive oil
mediterranean see salt
italian (preferably Cerasuolo di Vittoria) red wine

Cut the broccoli in small bushes, and steam them for 10 minutes. In the meanwhile, cook the pasta (don't forget to put some salt in the water) and turn on the oven. You should stop cooking the pasta 2 minutes before the regular time, and put it under a cold stream of water. Once the broccoli are done, fry them in olive oil, until they tear apart, and spray them with pepper, salt and the cruched bread. Lay the pasta in an oven-dish and the broccoli on top of it, and some cheese. Make thin layers of pasta, broccoli, cheese, and add some olive oil if necessary.

Pass it in an oven at 200 degrees for 5 minutes, and serve it warm. The wine is for drinking ;)

Il secondo giorno di nozze

I have just seen a very nice movie, Il secondo giorno di nozze, by Pupi Avati. It's about a man, who is just too good. It was a long time ago since I have seen such a good movie. I was also impressed by the main actor, Antonio Albanese, who was able to escape his TV-characters once, and give us such impressive performance. I wonder whether this movie has been distributed outside Italy.

Rotterdam

Yesterday we visited the largest harbour in europe, or at leastm the city hosting it. We spent some time at the shopping center. Rotterdam is aiming to be the capital of architecture in 2007, and indeed it gives a feeling of being a completely different city with respect to other dutch cities. There are some very nice buildings, sometimes too close to each other - but the solutions are nice, and the city seems to be building more and more!!!

On the way back I took a train (Loes and Julia slept by Loes' sister). The connection was perfect. It was also nice to see how the bus connection was in time. Since we live in the new house, the connection is much better

Storm

Yesterday there was a storm. I was just able to drive home, around 14:00, before it really started blowing hard. Very hard. I spent the afternoon at home, and even walking to the supermarket seemed to be an enterprise. I skipped jogging. Today, whilst jogging, I found a couple of trees in the park were torn. Impressive how strong the wind could be. Trees were already naked, no leaves at all, and still they caught enough wind to be divelted. Amazing.

Daniele's visit

Daniele is visiting us. He came from Italy, hoping to find a job as an architect in the Netherlands or in the UK. he is having several interviews in those days, so actually I am seeing him not so much. Tomorrow he will fly to London; he booked a one-way ticket, so I am not sure of when I will see him again. Good luck Daniele.

Uova

Piano Concerto for the Left Hand in D

I am listening to this Ravel's masterpiece. I am not very acquainted with Ravel, but I heard about this concert on the radio and I got a cd from a colleague. It's a very nice piece of music, and it sounds typically as Ravel. The story behind it is very nice. The concert has been written for pianist Paul Wittgenstein who lost his right arm in WWI. Wittgenstein was the brother of philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. What a nice gesture, to write a concerto just for one hand. Unfortunately it did not help preventing WWII.

Tango

I am listening to an old CD of mine. It's about Tango, and it is played by a great classical piano player, Daniel Baremboim, together with a bandéon player and a double-bass player (so, not with the usual sexteto). It is a great CD. Baremboim has a delicate touch, and he is able to give great colour to all the voices he plays. This CD is intimate, and dramatic; passionate, as tango is, but also very delicate and melancholic. Just wonderful for a night like this.

Buon compleanno Kyara

Tomorrow we will celebrate Kyara's birthday. She will become 7 years old!!!

Visit to Amsterdam

Friday and saturday I went to Amsterdam. I drank a triple coffe with Monica, whilst confronting our troubles; we finished on a even score, also because we did not have enough time, but I am confident I will win. At the end Monica said she was sorry, and that was really necessary.

After that I walked to Marco. An hour walk, which I made 50% longer, in a useless attempt to fit my memory with the canal reality of Amsterdam. We ate at an Indian restaurant, and it was delicious, only Marco's dish was better than mine. Then we played some Etory, a PS2 game cam-controlled. Funny. Finally we watched The Schnitzel Paradijs: a must see movie, where the culinary love for good foods joins a group of youngster towards the perfect receipt. A cult movie.

Sleeping was difficult at Marco. He gave me the wrong readings, which kept me awake and laughing. On Saturday we went to the FOAM. We watched a ugly series of unsharp pictures of pissing women, and finally discovered that upstairs there was an exposition of the World-Press Photo master class. That was impressive. A picture of this series was my favourite.
Marco knew exactly where the Foam is located, in a canal, close to the water, which allowed us to reach it in only 3 1/2 hours walking and after asking to the i-Tourist. On the way back we were exausted of walking, and it started raining, so we took a tram, and then another one, and another one, and then finally the right one. Luckily Marco has bougth a GPS, and promised to bring it with himself next time.

New Year's Eve

We went to Rosaria and Peter's place, for a dinner. There was also another couple, Jos and Elena. Our kids have more or less the same age, and played together. Rosaria, who was wearing a fantastic dress, cooked some delicious things (melanzane arrostite, peperoni arrostiti, carpaccio di tonno, conchiglie in salsa di besciamella, pesce in umido). Jos brought some fantastic wine and champagne (the wine being some Chardonnay from Borgogne aged 2000). Nice evening, nice party.
